Okay, The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning. WHAT THE BLOODY BUGGERING HELL YOU FUCKING IGNORANT WANKERS. Triton gives Athena a music box, but coincidentally, she is crushed by a ship immediately after. Triton's response? "BLAAAARGHFKFJSBJGKEJKJT I BAN ALL MUSIC FROM MY KINGDOM FOREVARZ!" Let me tell you, internetz, there is NO FUCKING WAY any Merfolk would ever ban, malign, restrict, avoid, or otherwise discourage music. That is our fucking birthright, it's our raison d'être, it's our SHTICK. We sing, we play, we work magic that way, it's what we bloody well do, and it would be as easy to give that up as it would be to give up swimming. The entire goddamned history of our people, widespread and diverse as they are, is passed down in song and verse. We have perfected the art of tonal resonance to the point that we can pluck a string and turn you on, baby, yeah, or make you cry or explode in rage or spin circles in joy. But yeah, one extraneous, spoiled little royal bitch who dies clutching a music box and CHUCK IT IN THE BIN, MATES! It's one thing for Triton to declare something utterly bungheaded like this, because he's proven in, oh, every Little Mermaid movie since the beginning that he's an idiot prone to flying off the handle at little or no provocation and making similar totally unreasonable pronouncements. It's good to be king, I guess. But the rest of Atlantica going ALONG with it? Even the Americans when they had Bush in office came to a point where they just said "Fuck it, our leadership is stupid, we're going to ignore him and go about our lives until election time comes." Was there nobody in that palace who could have said "Yeah, whatever your kooky highness, take a nap and get back to us"? Christ.
I shouldn't be so pissed off about this, but every time I see such a gross misrepresentation of my people it makes me want to rip my bloody hair out. Given how inaccurate, insulting, and demeaning the portrayal is compared to what we actually are, I think I can be forgiven for a bit of pique. If it were a race of humans being portrayed this way, there'd be a general outcry of "OMG RACIST" and something would bloody well get done, but no, we get to sit and grit our teeth in silence. I wish we COULD come clean. It'd be fun to watch the berks at Disney backpedal and apologize and scramble to mitigate the damage. Hell, I think they should apologize just for foisting idiotic, poor-quality sequels on kids. This bit is just offensive all 'round.
